Hitachi Goes Nuclear In The UK

The BBC have reported that Japans Hitachi have agreed a £700m rights package to build nuclear plants in the UK. It comes as some measure of relief as Germanys E.On and RWE had earlier decided to withdraw from the UK nuclear industry. Instead, Hitachi will purchase Horizon Nuclear Power from E.On and RWE, supporting an estimated 12,000 jobs according to David Cameron.

The news will have come as further encouragement to the Prime Minister on the back of a surprising GDP boost only a few days ago. He said about the deal, “”This is a decades-long, multi-billion pound vote of confidence in the UK, that will contribute vital new infrastructure to power our economy.”
