Sobering Times For Beer Industry

According to Yahoo News, the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) published some downbeat figures, revealing that 120 million fewer pints were consumed this summer, despite the Euro 2012 competition which was expected to increase beer consumption.

The fall in beer sales encompassed both pubs and supermarkets, with the latter being especially damaged with sales down 6.5% in the quarter to September. Tax hikes are being blamed for the reduction, coupled with some other factors including the general rise in cost of living and squeeze in living standards – people just don’t have as much money as before to splurge on a pint or two.
