Want 70,000 New Jobs? Cut Fuel Duty Says NIESR

A report published by National Institute for Economic and Social Research has shown that if the government cuts fuel duty by 3p, as opposed to the three pence rise scheduled to be introduced in January, 35,000 jobs would be created as opposed to lost – leaving a total of 70,000 jobs hanging in the balance.

The claim from NIESR, as brought by Sky News, also claimed that 0.1% of economic growth would be lost due to the fuel duty rise – and the loss of revenue to the treasury could tip toe above £1.8 billion.

The research from NIESR will be championed by FairFuelUK who are to meet the treasury later this week.
